Press Night: Tuesday 9th December

December 10, 2014

Two Pantomimes opening officially tonight here in Hull- our “Aladdin” and just down the road The Hull Truck “Cinderella”.

The “feeling poorly” numbers have swelled- joining me on the sick list is Sherrie and now James (Abanazar). we could all do without this, but our task is to make it look as if nothing is untoward, and to shiver and cough quietly in the wings. There was a moment when the three of looked as if we were waiting for the doctor backstage, and a second later there we all are in the bright lights smiling and shouting and doing what we do best! Funny old job really when you are a bit under the weather!

The matinee was packed to the rafters with school parties. All school parties and nothing but school partiesyelling their heads off and giving the baddie a hard time!

Christmas comes to Hull!

The evening show is I suppose our official opening night, even though we have been running since Friday- this isthe night the press, and the Civic dignitaries, including the Mayor of Hull join with the press to watch the panto. This night too belongs to the “Gold Card” members of the Theatre’s Supporters Group who provided a buffet. All in all a nice evening to put afew glad rags on and chat to folk after the show.

Sherrie’s Agents, Ollie and Ashley came to see the show. Great to see Ashley (Vallance) again- I last saw him playing “Buttons” in the Kenneth More Theatre’s “Cinderella” a few years ago, so we had a good catch-up afterwards.

Heard from the Kenneth More’s “Dick Whittington” – the one I’ve costumed, and all seems well and set for their opening night. I will get to see it first week in January.

Also heard from my mate John Evans who is rehearsing in Llandudno for “Cinderella”, having a great time. Here’s a random picture of him rehearsing in the town hall with Baron Hardup- Jimmy Osmond!

Had a nice evening chatting to the theatre supporters, and after a few speeches from the Mayor and the Theatre Manager we headed back to our respective lemsips and duvets! Schools matinee tomorrow so we need to be full of energy to face 1,350 delighted kids!
