4th December 2014 Aladdin, Hull New Theatre

Monday already! Friday was a very restful day off, and a chance for everyone to rest. Callum returned with his cold almost gone, James Barron the same, and I’m feeling 99% at last- its no fun doing twice daily when you don’t feel on top of it all. Hoorah for medicines and the day off!

Had a few nice meals and mates up to see the show. Jason Belne & John Pitton brought friends to see the panto, and we all had a great night out at a local Italian. Jason gave Sherrie & I lunch during rehearsals at Pimlico. Seems a very long time ago! In that Evening was Tony Courts. Tony is now a Hull resident and works here, and was previously Stage Manager at the Kenneth More Theatre, Ilford.

Packed houses each day now- the schools all broke up on Friday, so everyday is busy now. Saturday and Sunday were very busy and jolly, and the early show on Sunday meant another Italian, this time on the Princess Quay.

Had a really lovely surprise on arrival at the Theatre Nick Potter from Qdos arrived bearing a smile and a gift from Nick Thomas. Nick (Potter is the archivist of the qdos collection, and Nick (Thomas thought i might like a framedp oster of The 1989 Cinderella that Peter and I were in here at Hull!

A very lovely thought, and here is a photo of Marion and I with the very poster many thanks Nick, very much  appreciated! I will treasure this.

Between shows today- Monday,  another surprise, Alan on Crew passed on an invite fom David Lee,pantoni productions he lives just opposite the theatre and was having his annual christmas soiree for theatre staff. delighted to join Robin and James Grumbleweed for an hour wearing my onesie with hood up to cross the road, as i had my Dame make up on! Here’s a picture of us all at David’s delightful do! Many thanks Mr Lee for the magnificent spread!

A very jolly show followed, and a visit from Daniel Dawson and his Mum to see the Panto. This one is Daniel’s nineteenth panto of the season. Incredible! I have no idea how he does it! He will, of course be writing his annual reports on the pantomimes he has seen around the country, and we’ll be publishing this in the Green Room when his travels end! A lovely meal again- beginning to like this two shows and a meal lark!

We only have nineteen shows left! One relief will be for Stage Management. Tonight Sam & I extracted the “flat” Policeman from Twankey’s mangle and to our horror we snapped his feet off! Very difficult to keep one’s composure when this happens, but it is timed to music cues so we discarded the feet and salvaged the rest of the mangled body! Apologies Cat!

My sigh tonight was when the Man I pick from the audience- he is the focal point of my Boudoir scene- left to take his child to the toilet just as I entered. The scene is all about him. Entirely dedicated to him. He returned when I’d finished! What can you do?
