New Year’s Eve 2014

December 31, 2014

Let it Go! Let it Go!

Since the last entry- on 27th December, we’ve been underground at the New Theatre Hull with two shows each day. You see daylight for the last time at about 1pm and then that’s it until you wake up the next morning!

Audiences have been great, and the shows continue apace. Delighted to have a visit from my friend Jodie Jackson. Jodie was Cinderella with Peter & I for a couple of years- at Birmingham Hippodrome and at Woking, and took part in the documentary about us called “Pantoland”. She is now working all over the place- here and abroad as the UK’s number one tribute act- Miss Madonna, and looking and sounding fabulous. So lovely to see her again!

We got the chance for an odd bite to eat after the shows, managing to make it to a very coldPizza Express. There’s been a power outage there and the past two visits have been like a visit to “Frozen”!

The Backstage corridor here at the “New” is like Niagra at the moment with a leak in the pipes. I have to time it to get past in my big opening frock- I dash between drips!

What events? Hard to recall with eleven shows on the trot- in a moment of tiredness last night I married my son by mistake-“ A Double Wedding” I announced with aplomb- “Me and Aladdin and… err… oh dear…” The Princess looked puzzled and the audience fell about laughing. Live theatre folks! It happens when you relax for a second!

Sherrie had a visit from some friends who were a part of her childhood- her Dad was best man at their wedding. A lovely visit to the Stage Door from this wonderful couple approaching their Diamond Anniversary!

Our Aladdin, Sam did a very very good deed in between shows when he stepped in to an emergency situation while shopping in “Boots”- I won’t go into detail, as he is a very modest guy, but it was a very fortunate visit to the shop.
Rebecca is writing down her experiences doing her first pantomime- I’m hoping to get a short version here on this blog before we finish. The full extent of her writing will be used for a very worthwhile purpose after the pantomime ends. A lovely gesture Rebecca. A great idea!

Tonight- New Year’s Eve folks head off to their homes, or to friends- and some staying here will meet up and have a night out- a day off tomorrow, then all thoughts will be on packing as we have only six shows left!
