The Day Off & Saturday Eve!

January 31, 2016

The BLMH Company with Paul & Hayley-Jo.

Thursday’s show saw a visit from Two BLMH stalwards- Paul James and Hayley Jo-Whitney. Paul is recovering from an operation, and well on the road to recovery. He will be returning to the Music Hall next month. Hayley is off on an exciting new venture- the National tour of “Jackie” the Musical. Based on the popular girl’s magazine (edited at one time by Nina Myskow) it stars my mate Janet Dibley!

The show was great fun on Thursday, with a jolly crowd. As soon as the curtain fell, it was a dash for me to get to Euston Station for the trip to Birmingham Hippodrome.

While I was heading off for Brum, some of the BLMH company weree off “Up West” for the delights of London’s Nightlife. A very good time was had by all, I believe!

While they were seated in their carriages, I was stood standing to Milton Keynes before I got a seat! The jpys of travelling at Peak Time!

I had no option. I knew I wouln’t arrive at Birmingham Hippodrome until the interval, and made it just in time for a swift glass of wine in the Qdos lounge, before taking my seat for the second half of “Aladdin”

Meanwhile, “Up the West End, That’s The Best End, Where the nightclubs thrive.. down into a dive they go…” Not my words- they are from “Fanlight Fanny”, as any fan of George Formby and Clinton Ford will know! Sorry- those of you under fifty need not concern yourself!

Here are our fearlessBrick Laners on a night out!

Meanwhile up in Brum I was watching Andrew Ryan as Widow Twankey, alongside Marti Pellow and Julian Clary, Lee Mead and Matt Slack.

Widow Twankey- Andrew Ryan  off to the clubs!

I had a great time. The Qdos end of run party was a joy- more photographs and a full report in this IBY Green Room section.

The next day while I went around the Bullring with Chris Hayward looking for fabrics, our hardy Brick Lane lot went to Colchester for lunch at Andrew Robley’s. I believe it was all splendid and a very jolly time was had by all.

Lunch at Robley Mansions.

Very feng shui that one orange!

Meanwhile Vincent Hayes was in the University City of Oxford visiting daughter Lucy who left Brick Lane last year for the hallowed halls and dreaming s[pires of that gorgeous place. Here’s Lucy as photographed by Dad.

Talking of proud parents- on Saturday Rusty’s family- Sarah, Jack and Ben called in to see the evening show. Ben is on tour with the Royal Shakespeare Company in a production of “The Dream” and will shortly be in Stratford. Here they are in Number One Dressing Room.

So the Brick Lane family has seen Paul, Hayley-Jo and Ben this week, with more mates to come in the following weeks. we now enter February with a busy month of performances that will take us into the first week of March!LucyJill
