A Dame Prepares!

The Week-end before rehearsals begin- usually the time you say goodbye to the world as we know it, and get ready to head into the all consuming 10am -7pm world of Panto! Warm clothes and alternative T shirts at the ready- rehearsal rooms switch between the arctic and the tropics in the flick of a switch- and script learning completed- although there is always that bit that never sinks in, no matter how hard you try!

The costumes were collected last weekend, and are now in Scarborough where they join the scenery and get unloaded at The Royal & Derngate next weekend. My final check list includes not just “Jack & The Beanstalk” for myself, but a last minute checking that all of “Rapunzel” costumes are ready to go to the dressing rooms. I’ve worked on the Kenneth More Theatre panto since the summer, and now everything is bagged and labelled and complete. Big sigh of relief there!

The costumes I’ve been involved in for other pantomimes are now hopefully on the actor’s backs and adorning Newport, Wiltons Music Hall (Good luck Roy & Debbie Hudd!) and a couple of pantomimes up North, and now that leaves tomorrow’s rehearsals to concentrate on.

The Derngate Dame’s Diary starts tomorrow, and I’ll do my best to keep it updated if not daily, then at least thrice weekly throughout the run, and beyond into The Brick Lane Music Hall’s “Sleeping Beauty” that I’ll be starting in mid January- through to Mid March.

Enjoy the Diary and do keep the comments coming in, and send Simon and I your panto links to your blogs so we can add them to the message boards!

Happy Panto Seasons everyone!
